ment wherever entered into by British subjects." Third paragraph read "any application or claim the subject matter of which falls within scope of such an agreement"

Fourth paragraph is deleted. In attached letter change "arbitration" to "mediation" and add Chinese characters for law. This letter is an unofficial assurance which will not be published.

Rights in inmovable property. Article now reads as in my immediately following telegram. I request approval of final addition to paragraph and your instructions as to whether third and fourth paragraphs regarding temporary occupation and compensa- tion being no less than paid to Chinese are to remain or not. Minister for Foreign Affairs will, I gather,
